Stilettos and Diapers: September 2016

National Coffee Day!

What could be better than to set aside an entire day to celebrate the nectar of the moms? Seriously, I don't know how moms do it that don't get their morning (and afternoon and evening) buzz. I love my coffee and all the accessories that come along with it. Although, since I'm the only one in this house drinking coffee, I should probably refrain from buying more mugs!

PS. Dunkin' Donuts has medium hot coffee for 66 cents today and Krispy Kreme is giving away a free coffee and donut to every customer. That's a good way to make your Thursday a little more exciting!

Black White and Spotted

As of right now, I think my fall wardrobe will include these black destroyed leggings 80% of the time. I just wish they came in more colors! I've found myself in a lot of neutrals lately. It's just easy to put together and I have been running so much that picking out my outfit is the last thing I've been leaving time for. (Well, that and cleaning my house...whoops.)

I've been carrying this tote a lot instead of a big diaper bag. I still need plenty of snacks when I leave the house, but cutting out burp cloths, blankets, bottles and multiple diapers has made it possible to not break my back carrying such a big bag! This top got in a few wears as the summer ended, but I think I'll wear it with a layer or 2 this fall. It also comes in black and a pretty blue color!

Back to the cleaning the house thing...I'm getting swamped over here! I've been cleaning out stuff and have purged some of my cabinets, the laundry room (which seems to be our dump all) and my closet is next. I feel like I need some friends, wine and several uninterrupted hours to clean that sucker out. Who's helping me?!

A Quest To Better My Face

My skin is treating me quite differently in my 30s than it did in my 20s. Anyone else? I've noticed more lines and pore definition than I ever have and I don't like it one bit! I've always been really good about washing my face every night and don't wear face makeup regularly. What I hadn't been good about, is regular sunscreen when we aren't specifically hanging out in the sun, or other real methods of helping my skin deal with aging. I have started on a quest to be better to my face and to try to prevent as much aging as possible!

Some things that I've been focused on doing, which I find helpful, are exfoliating, drinking tons of water, eating enough essential fatty acids, cutting out sugar and starting a better moisturizing routine.

I started using Garnier Ultra-Lift Sleeping Cream right after I turned 30. I did a review for it (you can check it out here) and loved it so much that I've been using it for about a year and a half. When recently, I decided to start the day using moisturizer with sunscreen, I headed to Garnier again. This time, the Garnier SkinActive Clearly Brighter™Brightening & Smoothing Daily Moisturizer SPF 15. (Say that 3 times fast!) I've been using it for about 3 weeks now. It contains antioxidant vitamin C that works quickly to even out tone and texture for a brighter, smoother skin. It's lightweight and smells good, too!

I'm not typically a huge fan of before and afters, since there can be so many factors that can affect them. But, I wanted to see if it was really doing anything, so I snapped a picture with my regular eye makeup/lipgloss routine, in the same robe, same spot, same time of day, just 2 weeks apart. I started using it right after we got home from the beach, so I was pretty tan to start, but my skin looks and feels much smoother to me! I also have a little cheek glow, am I right?

Using the Garnier SkinActive® daily moisturizer is an active way to visibly healthier skin that we can all do. It's easier than eating the right foods 100% of the time or getting enough sleep! It's available at pharmacies and my favorite shopping spots, Target and Amazon, so you can get it easily and at a reasonable price.

Fall Friday Favorites!

It's FRIDAY! These are a few of my favorite things this week!

I tried a couple new recipes and they were both delicious. I'm adding them into my regular rotation!

Lemon Garlic Chicken Zoodles. This is super healthy, Whole30 and my family approved. I want to try this with roasted red peppers in place of tomatoes sometime!

Baked Flounder with ParmesanI used wild filets without the skin and it was super quick and easy!

Mahogany Teakwood candle from Bath and Body Works. I love my Pumpkin Pecan Waffles in the Fall and the Fresh Balsam for Christmastime, but this one smells great and really fills the house.

Fall! Isn't everyone so excited about this one? I decorated my house this week and just need to go to the farmers market and stock up on these pumpkins I got last year. I love the "exotic" pumpkins and The Hubs says they're the rejects. Whoever made them so popular is sure making money off those suckers!

Cozy Sweaters. It's not exactly cool enough here for them, but I want every single one I see! I think olive is my favorite color this season, so this open shoulder sweater is on my really want list!

Rustic Bar Cart. We've been talking about putting a bar cart in our dining room and I saw this one in a magazine yesterday and love it! But it gets better. It's $159 and from Walmart!

Our weekend plans include baseball, soccer, boating and a pig roast! 100lbs of pig to be exact. Not sure what my kids will think of that!

Happy Friday, y'all!

Distressed Denim and Fall Layers

I've had these black distressed leggings for a couple weeks now and I've worn them like crazy. They're so comfortable and are right in my frugal price point. While I'm already missing the hot summer, I must admit that I'm enjoying this layering stuff!

I pulled out some old pieces that haven't been worn in awhile for this look. While I love to get some new items every season, I really like when I have things in my closet, like my blazer, that are easy to mix with current styles for a different look. I have a post coming up soon with some of my favorite things that I've had and worn for years that I think everyone needs in their fall wardrobe!

My kids, on the other hand, are outgrowing everything at rapid fire pace. I have the task this week of bribing them to try on all their fall clothes to see what fits and what we need. That should take any and all free time for the rest of the week!

Happy Wednesday!

Weekend, Romper and The Commanders Hat

How that for a blog title?! Ha! Lately, I feel like I've been too busy to get much done around this house, much less on my blog. The good part, is that I've been busy doing a ton of fun stuff. We had company over the weekend, so up until yesterday, I let myself be on vacation too. Lots of delicious food and wine!

As with most weekends, we throw boating in there as much as possible. Trying to squeeze in as much of this beauty as possible before its cool!
Lake Norman, NC Sunset
One day over the weekend, Callan had clearly had enough and was sleeping like this! The Hubs mom has tons of pictures of him sleeping standing and in totally random places. Looks like someone takes after his daddy.
Lincoln loves when we pull up to a beach, because he can roam the boat. He's not a fan of being confined in his life jacket and he is moving around a ton!
We went to a new island and Cooper found a secret hideaway, which he spent most of the day in.
When we're not boating, we're at sports! I take a pic of my big boy and his cute coach every season. This year I slacked until game 3, but I got the picture!
Callan had another soccer game too,. He does far more running than kicking, but he loves it!

I got in a few new pieces for fall and this black floral romper is one of them. Remember the blue floral romper I wore in this post? This is the same thing, but different color. I liked it so much that I needed another one. At under $20 and prime delivery, I'm all in. (I ordered size medium since it runs a bit small)

On Saturday, we went to the coolest event. Our friend here is in the Navy and just got reassigned to a position in Texas. They invited us to his Change of Command ceremony and it was one of the neatest things I've seen. So many people dressed in their uniforms, marching, saluting and all the official lingo that went into the ceremony. It was just cool. And it made me so grateful and proud to be an American! Afterwards, there was a reception and they had several military vehicles that the kids got to get inside of, which was our boys dream come true!

There were a few of us families there that always hang out together and our kids had a blast playing. We got a picture of them all and they are the biggest, sweaty messes from running around outside and playing. All the couples there wanted pictures, too, since we were all dressed up. The commander told me to wear his hat, so wear it I did!
And since the weekend absolutely included red wine, I wanted to share this one we tried. It's a winner! It's a really big red and actually has a bit of a bourbon smell/taste. Robert Mondavi brought their A game with this one and it's reasonably priced.

Today we're finally getting a door put on Lincoln's bedroom. Most lots around here, including ours, only perked for a septic system for so many bedrooms. They still build the house with however many rooms they want, but legally can't call it a room and just leave the door off. Well, now that Lincoln is sleeping through the night in his room (YAY!) we figured we better actually give him a door so we don't have to tiptoe around upstairs anymore!

Hope your Tuesday is going great!

Cold Shoulder Sweater Dress

Nordstrom Cold Shoulder Sweater Dress
Over the next 3 weeks, I'm teaming up with some fashionable moms for Moms Do Fall Fashion! Take Time For Style kicked it off and there is a $250 Nordstrom gift card giveaway over there that you don't want to miss!

My style almost all the time is simple, yet fun. I love wearing dresses, because they're comfortable, but I'm ready to go anywhere without changing out of my yoga pants! For fall, I'm loving the sweater dresses and especially the cold shoulder detail. It makes a sweater dress a little more southern appropriate!

I love a good crossbody bag, since it's far easier to use while my hands are full with babies. I usually have a little one like this in my car and don't take the whole diaper bag in when we run into a store quickly.

A good pair of booties is essential to a fall wardrobe, since they can be worn with just about anything. I like a chunky heel to be a little taller, but they're still easy to walk in.
