Stilettos and Diapers: January 2016

Valentines Day Gift Guide

I do love love day! I'm a complete sucker for going all out for themed holidays and Valentine's Day is just one of those good ones in my book! My house will be covered in pink and red and I'll have a table spread that will make me forget I'm the mom of 3 boys! While we're not big on gift giving, some things I just like to get for myself! And with 2 sisters that have Birthdays the week before Valentine's Day, I feel like they always get something with the love theme. Here are some favorites that I wouldn't mind having in my collection, if I don't already!
Valentines Day gift guide. Perfect Valentines Day gifts.

Do you give gifts for Valentine's Day? Do you hope your man gives you one this year? Send him this post so you can get something you love! My favorite gift this year would actually be that my little man's tooth comes through so I can sleep! Ahh, I forgot how difficult teething days could be!

Happy Thursday!

A White Weekend

Today the snow we had from the weekend is finally almost gone and school is back in for the first time since last Thursday! The Hubs was in Chicago when we found out this weather was coming and he wasn't supposed to get back until Friday night. I knew that there wasn't going to be any way he could make it then, if we got the weather they predicted. Sure enough, his flight was canceled and he started scrambling late Thursday to get home. All that was left were flights to Atlanta, so he flew there, rented a car and drove home. It's supposed to take 4 hours, but it took him 8! The roads were awful, even for a New Yorker in an suv. They just don't treat the roads here like they do up north. I was so grateful when he came in the door Friday morning and then couldn't wait to nap, since I stayed up most of the night worrying about him!

After that drama, we had a fantastic, snowed in weekend. There was a ton of sledding down our driveway, which had a generous layer of ice. I wasn't out as much as I normally would have been, since Lincoln couldn't be out long. I did manage to be out long enough for some great shots of my wild boys!

Having lived in New York for a few years, it's pretty funny to see how dramatically a few inches of snow and ice will shut a town down. I haven't minded lots of movies, hot cocoa and lazy days with my boys, though!

Fashion || What to Wear for Valentine's Day + Giveaway!

I don't miss an opportunity to dress up and any holiday is a good time for me. Here's what I'll be wearing for Valentine's Day!
Leather Leggings, Ankle Bow Heels, cable knit sweater

I'm teaming up with 12 other ladies to help you make the most of love day with a Valentine's Day Blog Hop! You can get ideas for crafts, food, date night ideas and more! Once you get to the bottom of this post, you'll find links to all their fab posts.

I think it's really hard to dress up when it's cold out. Especially since we just had a ton of snow here in Charlotte! One of my absolute go-to "dress-up" pieces are leather leggings. They're fancy, edgy and yet comfortable. Hey moms, hey. While I've gone pink and red crazy before, I like this simple look, with just a pop of red.

These shoes...they're very impractical for snow, but just find for the cleared paths. Hehe.

Plaid Blanket Scarf, red Fossil Tote

If I were bold, I'd have a red lip, too, but I haven't mastered that one. I'm a bit envious of the girls I see that can rock it, but I end up looking like a clown. For now, I'll just stick to my Mac Velvet Teddy dupe

Snow, Ice, Wine and Randoms.

Last night, it was just me and my boys here and we watched a movie all together. Cooper held Linc for the longest time, no one fought and we ate popcorn and donuts. I just eat up the magical mom moments like these. They help combat the times when I want to pull my hair out!

I went to Target today, right after dropping Coop off to school. You've never seen freak out like southern moms in Target the day before a snowstorm! The soup aisle looked like the world was ending! The problem is, no one is prepared to handle winter weather here and we're supposed to be getting a ton of ice. Our local meteorologist forecasted that we could have enough ice to lose power for 5-10 days. 5-10 DAYS

I just went to the basement and brought up the generator, camping lantern, extra flashlights and batteries. I'm terrified at the thought of no power for that long, but at least I'll be able to save the food in the refrigerators. If anyone has any great ideas for kid entertainment with no power, I'll take it. And don't worry, I bought enough wine for the entire 10 days, just in case. Priorities, people.

Outside of bad weather, here are some random tidbits that y'all might want to know.

In an effort to be healthier, I decided to stop using antiperspirant and just the deodorant. I have a family history of breast cancer and want to be proactive. Well, the Toms of Maine one may as well not be worn. Sweet mercies. I need to find a good alternative before I lose friends.

On a diaper run a couple weeks ago, there were no size 2s at Target except for the Up and Up brand. I've never used that kind before, but I'm really impressed. Lincoln has been wearing them all night long for 2 weeks and has leaked a tiny bit once! They're also buy 2, get a $10 gift card this week!

The Hubs is always wanting me to budget with him. I'm not a fan, but I figured if we want to pay for these kids to go to college, or have cars, I better get on it. We downloaded the EveryDollar app from Dave Ramsey and I love it. It really keeps you in check, having to put every single purchase in! It's been great to really see how much we're spending and saving. It's a free app, so give it a shot!

I'm trying to Snapchat a bit more, because I think it's fun and my kids like it! Cooper is always saying, "put that on Snapchat! Haha. Look me up: stilettodiapers!

Hope you're having a great Thursday!

Fashion || Stay Neutral

Growing up in the conservative south, then living and going to school in New York, my Facebook feed is like a Presidential World War. I have no desire to argue about politics and frankly, can't wait until the election is over. I have my opinions, but will remain neutral to the public. Much like these fashion pieces I'm loving right now.

I can't get enough of the winter whites and tan, especially if we happen to get snow. I think the neutrals are a super classy look for the cold weather.

Do you think whites are good in winter?

Would you wear them yourself?

Recipe || Greek Yogurt and Honey Blueberry Cream Muffins

The perfect blueberry muffin recipe, made with greek yogurt and honey. A family favorite!

One of my favorite pastimes is crafting up goodness in the kitchen. I really enjoy cooking and baking and in my pre-mom life, did a whole lot more of both. I cook dinner nearly every night and if time allowed, I'd be baking every day, too! I love taking recipes and putting a healthier spin on them. It really isn't that hard when you know the ingredients that can be exchanged and you have those things already in your pantry
Delicious blueberry muffins
For these muffins, I took a favorite of mine from Allrecipes and made my adjustments. They turned out so good and were moist inside and browned outside, just like the originals. The only difference is added protein, less sugar and swapping unhealthy fat for a healthy one!

2 eggs
1/2 cup honey
1/2 cup sugar (or coconut sugar)
1/2 cup coconut oil
2 cups flour
1/2 tsp vanilla
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp baking soda
1 cup greek yogurt
1 1/2 cups blueberries

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. In a large bowl, mix eggs, honey, sugar and coconut oil and vanilla with a mixer. You want to make sure all the coconut oil is mixed in well. (You can soften it for just a minute if you want, but I don't melt it.) Add in flour, salt, baking soda and greek yogurt and mix until combined. Fold in blueberries. Fill paper lined or greased muffin tins with the batter and bake 20 minutes or until golden brown.

This made 12 regular and 12 mini muffins for me. Which is about 18 regular muffins.
Healthy blueberry muffins with greek yogurt and honey.
My boys devoured these things, so next time, it will be a double batch!

Do you make substitutions in recipes? My favorite one to use is probably greek yogurt. What's yours?

Fashion || Corduroy and Leather

Happy Thursday! I ventured out of my skinny jean comfort zone this week with a corduroy skirt! With trying to go through my closet and weed out things I haven't worn in awhile, I've found some things that I forgot I had! I've been trying to mix it up and wear a little bit more variety lately.

I love the button front skirt trend, but hadn't taken the plunge until I found a deal I couldn't resist at my trusty Forever 21. It's a great place to try a trend you're not sure you're going to love on yourself!

This has been a long week so far with sick kiddos and sleepless nights around here. I'm happy we're almost to the weekend! Have a great day!

Baby Registry Essentials

Most of you reading this have, or will, find themselves with a registry gun and a blank stare at the front of Babies”R”Us. The good thing? They have everything. The bad thing? They have everything! It can be completely overwhelming to register, especially for first time moms.

Now that I've had 3 babies, I know exactly what products I consider essentials. Apparently, I like black and white baby things!

You can also download the Registry App and start searching for items you love. You can easily manage and add things to your registry when you aren't at the store.

What Molly Wore: Winter

Real life, there's a baby in nearly every Instagram outfit post so far this winter. That baby has also changed my style quite a bit, with having to have nursing friendly pieces. My other boys ate every 4-5 hours at this point, but we're still chugging along at every 3 right now.
Oh and I can't forget that everything I wear needs to be able to be machine washed after being spit up on! Haha.

Thursday Ramblings

- The Fisher-Price Spacesaver Highchair fits perfectly inside the Fisher-Price Bright Beats toy. You know, in case your baby is a mom magnet and you need to MAKE DINNER.

- Time Warner Cable is a bunch of suckers. This is our second day without cable and I'm not too happy about it. Sick mom with 2 kids at home? Not cool, Time Warner. Your tech should show up with breakfast and mimosas.

- And yes, I'm sick. I have a throat closing, snot dripping, head pounding thing going on, that I'm hoping I can beat without a trip to the doctor. That's on top of the major clogged duct issues I've had this week. For the first time, I understand why people quit nursing. It's dang hard (and extremely painful) sometimes.

- Can someone invent a coat that a 7 year old thinks is cool enough for the runway of the playground? Because at 7:10 each morning, I find myself repeating how important coats are when it's 30 degrees out.

- Walmart pickup. Let me say I've NEVER been a Walmart fan. Until I placed an order on my phone while nursing the baby, got $20 off an $80 purchase and had someone put all my groceries in the back of my car without ever having to put shoes on a 4 year old. Like all the groceries, paper products, shampoo and wine. It would only be better if it came to my door. Did I mention that it's free, you can't tip the people and they upgraded my small coffee creamer to a large one at no extra cost since they were out? If you click through with this link, you will get $10 off your first order and I'll get $10 off mine. Then after your first order, you can share your link with your friends.

- Since I'm feeling up for forgetting healthy and making all the delicious cold weather soups, here are some I'll be making. Loaded potato, creamy tortellini and sausage, chicken tortilla and corn and cheese chowder

Happy Thursday, y'all!

Baby Update: 4 Months Old!

Little Lincoln is already 4 months old! He's really getting into the camera cheesing!

This is the face he makes when he's cooing. He does it a lot and will copy someone if they start first. I LOVE it! It's so fun when they start interacting.

4 month stats:

13lbs 14.5oz
25 3/4"

He's not the greatest at all. He hates napping and usually only naps while I hold him or in his carseat by the microwave vent fan. He also loves to wake up every 1.5 or so hours at night lately. He's been super drooly, so maybe his teeth are bothering him? Regardless, I am SO TIRED. Sleep that interrupted is no bueno. He also hates the car and screams for the duration of nearly every ride and every day in the pickup line. After some tips from people on Instagram, I think we'll be trying the convertible seat pretty soon.

Enough of the dislikes! He loves his new toys that he got for Christmas, especially the Fisher-Price Bright Beats toy. He's starting to hold onto rattles and light toys and can entertain himself for a little bit. He loves music, watching his brothers dance and being held! The day after Christmas, he rolled from his stomach to his back! When he's on his stomach, he can scoot himself quite far. I've seen him go about 2 feet!

The sleepless nights are exhausting and my body is tired from lots of bouncing, but as he grows up, I realize even more how much I'll miss this! He's my last little one to snuggle and I can sleep when they're all teenagers. Hehe.
