Stilettos and Diapers: October 2015

Fall Fun 2015

I can't believe it's the last day of October! Today, we're gearing up for Halloween party and trick-or-treating tonight, then my middle man's Birthday tomorrow! We will be super sugared out! We've had a lot of fun already this fall and have some pictures to prove it.

A couple weekends ago, we went apple picking. It was still pretty warm and we were a bit hot in these fall clothes. Haha.

Last night, we went to a local fall festival. It finally felt like fall and was chilly! I put Lincoln's JJ Cole Bundle Me in his seat to keep him toasty. I had more than one person say he had the best seat in the house!

We got the Urban Bundleme, which has a quilted nylon outer and a super soft inside lining. I think he thinks it's comfy and I love the way it looks! We'll be using it again tonight while we Trick-or-Treat since it's supposed to be chilly again!

The big boys got to decorate pumpkins with funny faces and they loved getting one of their own.

My big boy in his cool FabKids shirt, that also matches his Met hat! His plaid and denim from apple picking came with this skull top in this month's picks and is one of my favorites yet.
What kind of fans would we be if we weren't representing our team in the World Series? The Hubs has serious carving skills!

Hope you and your little ones have fun tonight! Happy Halloween!

Friday Favorites

It's Friday and these are some of my favorites this week!

I made this Pioneer Woman recipe for dinner this week and it was delicious! While there were quite a few complaints from my boys before eating it, once they tasted it, the liked it, to! Next time, I'm serving it in a bread bowl like she does!

Plaid Everything
I, along with everyone else in life, have a crush on plaid right now. This plaid top is perfectly plaid and fits my frugal requirements. While I'm at it, I'll take this plaid scarf, too.

NY Mets games

We've had such a great time World Series watching together. With games tonight, tomorrow and Sunday, we're looking at some more late nights of fun this weekend!

I've been using this eyeshadow clutch lately and love it! You can interchange the colors and it comes  in this cute case. I loved traveling with it last weekend!

We don't really need to talk about how much Halloween candy I've eaten. But, for tomorrow's neighborhood party, I'm going to be making this Monster Munch. I think I'm going to swap the peanuts for pretzels in case of peanut allergies, but I love the candy corn in there.

Happy Friday, y'all!

Fashion || Plaid and Booties

Fall is all about the booties, right? This year, buckles, zippers and chunky heels are adding to the classic bootie style. Rack Room Shoes buyer, Alyson Stanley, picked out the bootie I'm wearing here as her top pick for fall.

Rack Room Shoes has even more trendy booties right now! Here are some of my favorites for fall, all available with the ever popular BOGO half off!

I am loving this new blanket scarf poncho from Molly Suzanne. I will probably have to stop myself from wearing it multiple times a week! I have a tank top under it today, but can add a long sleeve for when it gets colder. It also doubles as a nursing cover. Haha. Speaking of nursing, my hair has gotten pulled a lot by little fingers lately, so I've been wearing it up more. It's really out of my comfort zone, but I'm liking this funky top bun thing. Next week, my hair stylist sister in law is coming and I'm considering chopping it all off!

Celebration of Life

The past several days have been a bit of a whirlwind. My grandma passed away on Thursday. She had fallen a few days before and it wasn't looking good for her. I decided to make the drive down to Savannah with Lincoln so that she could meet him, in case it was the end. I left Thursday morning and I wasn't gone more than an hour before I got the call that she was gone. I was so sad that I didn't make it to say goodbye, but grateful that I had gotten to talk to her on the phone the day before.

This was us at almost this exact time last year, when we stayed with her at Tybee Beach.

She will surely be missed, as evidence of how many people gathered together to celebrate her life. My mom, sisters and I spent several hours going through her old pictures, love notes and journals and it made me want to write. I love that she had gathered all of her memories so that we got to experience them, too. She had an amazing life, that had a ton of love in it and now she is at peace with Jesus.

Although the reasons were sad, it was really nice to see family. My dad and 3 of my siblings hadn't met Lincoln yet, so we were all glad they got to see him before Thanksgiving. The kids were all a little ray of sunshine over the weekend. Lincoln had smiled once ever before the trip, but the first morning we were there, he gave my sweet momma these grins thatI know she needed.

We had to get some pictures together, even though we had cried all our makeup off. My sisters, brother and I sang at the service, so that made me hold it together for awhile, but afterwards, it was waterworks.

Before we left last night, my parents grabbed a cake for Callan. His Birthday is in 5 days and it was great to have a little celebration with the family!

Times like these just make you want to hold everyone a little bit closer and gives you a bigger appreciation for life. Don't miss a chance to tell the people you love how much they mean to you. My to-do list has more snuggles and less cleaning in it this week for sure!

Fashion || Fall Layers

Fall chill and LAYERS! This postpartum bod is happy for layer time, even though I may have jumped the gun on this one and had some sweat bullets on me by the end of the day. This is the south, after all!

This vest from J. Jill is a cozy layer without being crazy thick. The sides are ribbed and stretchy, so it's very comfy. You know you're a mom when "comfy" is your favorite type of clothing!

Mixed media is a big shoe trend this fall, with a couple different materials in one shoe. Rack Room Shoes has many to choose from, which made my decision hard when I was shopping! At the end of the day, I was a sucker for that plaid!

I can't believe I've gone so long without an "all weather" boot. I think the patent portion on the boots I chose will perfect for snow tromping!

Volumizing mascara and natural brow filler, Maybelline
There's one bit of makeup I rarely ever leave the house without and that's mascara. I have a small collection from trying everything to get the lashes I want! My latest find is Maybelline Falsies Push Up Drama Mascara.
Maybelline Falsies Push Up Drama Mascara
My regular "mom makeup" is mascara and brow filler. Why the brow filler? Because when I was 15, I begged to get my eyebrows waxed. I got what I wanted and they've never grown back since. One of the biggest regrets of my life! My brows are very sparse and aren't shaped well near the inside. Even when I'm all made up, I don't feel like I look finished without some filler. That said, I don't have time for much in the mornings, so it has to be quick and simple.

Here's my hang in the house, school pickup and errands makeup. On the left, you can see I'm wearing the Maybelline Falsies Push Up Drama Mascara and Maybelline Brow Define + Fill Duo. On the right, well, those are my God given little lashes and my self inflicted, sad excuse for an eyebrow. Hehe.
Natural Brow Filler

My eyelashes aren't very dramatic, especially for having such dark hair. I love that this mascara is very volumizing. It has a creamy, plumping formula and slides on smooth for a dramatic change. The patented push-up brush has cup-shaped bristles which scoop up the lashes into a 45 degree angle. As with any mascara, I always let the first coat dry a bit, then add another coat. Too much of a good thing is wonderful!

The Brow Define + Fill Duo is a pencil on one end and powder on the other. The goal of a natural looking brow is short, light strokes, up and out with the pencil. I saw someone describe this as flick-a-flick-a-flick and it makes sense to me! The powder end is a soft sponge, that is easy to smooth right over your brow for a full, yet natural look.
Maybelline Falsies Push Up Drama Mascara

When I'm ready to paint the town red with The Hubs (i.e., eat an entire meal without getting up) I go all out. For this look, I added Maybelline Color Molten Eyeshadow in Taupe Craze. The lady who did my makeup for my wedding put purple eyeshadow on me, even after I told her it was my least favorite. I was mad, but then I realized purple is a good shade for my coloring. I even line my eyes with purple liner, like in this look.

I found all these great products at Walmart while I was getting lots of Halloween decorations. Thank goodness for one stop shops, right moms?!

Do you fill your brows?

Do you have any makeup colors you don't like to wear?

Boo Your Neighbors Idea Halloween

Have you ever boo'd your neighbors or friends? It's a ton of fun and you shouldn't miss out on it! Last year, one of my neighbors started the boo-ing and it was so fun to participate for my first time! The goal is to cover your neighborhood with the Halloween spirit. You get a gift and secretly leave it on 2 neighbors porches with directions to pass the boo along. (I like the ring and run method!) Everyone hangs a sign up so you can easily tell who's house has been hit. Then, watch every day to see how quickly your neighborhood get's covered. It's so much fun and brings a little unity to your neighborhood.

This year, I wanted to mix it up a bit. The kids get all the fun on Halloween, typically. Us adults get whatever candy we can sneak out of their buckets while they're sleeping. That is, if they ever go to sleep after the sugar high.

After walking around the neighborhood for a couple hours, then dealing with sugared up kids, what's better than a glass of wine? A glass of wine and a yummy snack!

My boo basket this year includes Robert Mondavi Private Selection Cabernet Sauvignon, Robert Mondavi Private Selection Chardonnay and a gourmet trail mix that will balance out the candy you stole from your kids bucket.
Boo Your Neighbors Idea Halloween

I think a lot of people think of trail mix as something to take hiking, or for super hippy folks. No so! Trail mix is a great snack for anytime, especially on the go. It can easily be eaten while walking around the neighborhood on Halloween night and it's a breeze to make.
Gourmet Trail Mix
Gourmet Trail Mix
1 cup sesame sticks
1 cup yogurt covered raisins
1 cup dark chocolate covered espresso beans
1 cup cinnamon sugar pecans
1 cup pretzels (I used sticks broken in half)
1/2 cup pumpkin seeds

Mix in a large bowl and you're ready to serve! I bought packages of Halloween treat bags and this recipe filled 4 of them halfway. I attached hanging chalkboard tags to the baggies and used those to hang right off the wine bottles.

Since this whole process is a bit of a covert operation, you'll need to explain yourself in a note. Here is the one I made. Feel free to click on it and print for your own use!

From 10/1 - 11/30, you can get instant coupons or mail in rebates hanging off bottles of Robert Mondavi Private Selection wines. So no excuses, grab a few bottles and get to BOO-ing your friends this Halloween!

Friday Favorites

How true is this? It is great to have The Hubs around and to do fun family stuff on the weekend, but a mom's job never gets a break! Here are some of my favorite things this week:

Decorations, pumpkin brews and a cold front coming in tomorrow. Its starting to feel like fall around here!
fall decoration, pumpkin beer, front door fall
The NY Mets! And more importantly, watching my boys watch them. (Or sleep while they're on!) They won last night, allowing them to go to the National League Championship games against the Cubs. Cooper and Billy went outside screaming at 11:30 last night when they won and we let Coop go to school late today. You could say it's pretty hardcore around here!

The Soothe Shirt from Lalabu. It's a shirt, that's also a nursing bra, that also has a pouch in front for your baby. I am just like a kangaroo with it! It's nice because you don't have to wrap something on, or buckle the carrier, just slide the baby right in. It just goes up to 15lbs and is perfect for hanging out around the house.

Dunkin Donuts pumpkin donut. Preferably eaten while wearing yoga pants.

This poncho from Molly Suzanne. I've had them for about 3 weeks and finally got them listed! I can't wait to wear this with the cooler temps!

This weekend, Lincoln is being dedicated at church, Cooper plays a baseball double header and has baseball pictures and the Mets play both Saturday and Sunday. It's going to be a fun filled weekend!

Happy Friday, y'all!
