Stilettos and Diapers: January 2015

Favorite Workout Gear

Happy Friday! Today, I'm sharing some of my favorite workout gear and accessories. We all know there's a whole lot more motivation to workout when you feel good in your clothes and when all your gear is working the way you need it to!

1. Old Navy Compression Pants. These are awesome. They're pretty thick, hold everything where it needs to be and doesn't let any jiggling happen while you're moving. At a price much lower than the fancy brands, these are a total win in my book.

2. Camelbak Glass Bottle. The hubs just got this for me for Christmas. After my last Camelbak was on it's last leg, I was ready for a new one. This one is glass and honestly makes me drink more. It doesn't give my water that funky taste that plastic does. (Which I didn't even realize until I drank out of the glass!)

3. Lululemon Ruffle Butt Skirt. No, that's not the official name, but I love feeling girly when I'm all sweaty and gross. You'll shuck out a good chunk for the frills of this skirt, but it will be worth it!

4. Mizuno Running Shoes. I know that running shoes vary from person to person, but these are my absolute favorite for running. I have cute Nikes that I walk in or do other workouts besides running, but these are the most supportive and comfortable shoe I've run in.

5. Squat Now, Wine Later Tank. What's a good workout without a little sass? I love this tank from 9th and Elm. Wine drinking is a favorite hobby of mine and I feel completely justified in drinking it after I workout in this tank. 9th and Elm has tons of fun workout tanks like this, too!

6. Yurbuds. These are the first pair of ear buds that I've had that actually stay in my ears while I run. You can buy them in men's or women's sizes and they come with 2 different sized bud for your ear. Pick the pair that is most comfortable and run without those suckers falling out!

Who's ready to kick off the weekend with a good workout now?! I have some good news for one of you. 9th & Elm is giving one of you one of these cute "Squat Now, Wine Later" tanks! Simply use the rafflecopter widget below to enter!

Fashion // Dressy Cozy

Am I wearing anything that isn't cozy this winter? No. No I'm not. And I'm quite happy with my decision, too. I've been so into leggings so far this winter that I needed a little break. But not to something that has a button. That is reserved for extra special occasions. Hehe.

As you can see, this dress has pockets. Yes, pockets. A mom's dream! This is another piece from J. Jill's New Easy Collection and I just love it. Super comfortable, long enough to chase kiddos in and cute to boot. I love the cowl neck detail as well. You have until Friday to enter to win a $100 gift card from J. Jill! Healthy Game Day Food

The big game is Sunday and I bet a lot of us are thinking about what to serve guest or what dish to bring to a host. With this being the beginning of the year and people are still trying hard to stick to their healthy New Year's Resolutions, I thought we needed some healthier game day munchies!
Healthy Game Day Food via Stilettos and Diapers

Here are some of my favorite finds that won't leave you with a food hangover the next day.

Copycat Chilis Salsa - This is my recipe and I can vouch that it is DELICIOUS!

Veggie Tray Twist - I made this veggie spread for my sister-in-law's bridal shower. The big martini glasses were for dip. Some fun containers make a basic veggie tray a little more exciting!

Buffalo Chicken Lettuce Wraps

Brown Sugar-Glazed Turkey Meatballs

Football Deviled Eggs

Rainbow Fruit Cups - How cute would it be to do team colors? This year, try one cup layered with green grapes and blueberries, then one with blueberries and strawberries!

Lazy Man's Guacamole

Crispy Baked Onion Rings

There you have it! Cooper already went through and picked the ones he wants me to make. He's a huge onion ring fan, so those were choice #1. Happy Super Bowl snacking!

Fashion // Layered Up

Navy and spring and comfy, oh my! I'm basically wearing a lot of favorite, comfortable basics all at once.

I love a good pile of layers in the winter time, but our weather has been wacky here lately! 30 degree nights followed by 65 degree days has me layering up in the morning, but ready for sandals and spring by noon. This outfit is a good compromise, because I paired spring colors with warm layers to give myself the best of both worlds. Some of these jewels are from Rocksbox. The first 3 people to sign up with code "MollyBFF11" will get their first month free!

I love navy all year long, but this sweater from J. Jill's New Easy Collection has me swooning. It's comfortable and looks good, while being great quality. I'm realizing more and more how important quality pieces are, especially basics that can be worn often. J. Jill is giving one of you a $100 gift card to shop for your own great pieces! Second Child and Baby Proofing

Nothing makes for a better life lesson than some good experience. I learned that the hard way this week.

You see, since we moved into this house with a 2 year old, I didn't think baby proofing needed to be done, unless we had a third someday down the road.

I was wrong.

I was in the middle of the of "Mom, I'm not so tired" and "you still have to stay in your bed" nap time drama that happens here nearly every day. I would quit the naps for the protesting now 3 year old if I didn't think he needed them, but man, he does. And once he actually falls asleep, he can sleep 2-3 hours. So he needs it.

He finally got quiet, which typically means he's asleep. I was watching Bravo while folding laundry, which seems to be my nap time routine at least a few times a week. I had the monitor on, I was being a good mom, y'all.

Fast forward an hour and he was up. The first thing he said to me was, "I put that circle black thing in my mouth." I had him take me around until he showed me the door stopper, which was missing the rubber tip that goes on the end. I used to think those things were pretty small, until I started freaking that he actually swallowed it and wondering if it would come through. In case you're wondering, they're 1/2" in diameter. My mind raced to ER's and scopes, ultrasounds and a screaming bloody murder 3 year old. None of which sounded good. He was breathing fine and ate fine, and everyone I checked with thought it would pass.

So we waited. And I did one of the things you never imagine having to do pre-kids...digging through poop. Toddler on antibiotic poop, mind you. 8 poops and 4 days later, I finally hit the jackpot.

There it was, in all its rubber tip glory, still in one piece in his diaper. (Yes, I know he needs to potty train. Someone come teach him along with what is acceptable to eat.)

Lesson learned that the second child will terrorize your home. He will get into everything and do the most crazy stuff you never saw from child #1. Get ready for it.

My advice for you? Why don't you just take those stoppers off, put those suckers in a ziplock and hold on to them until that second born starts college.

Weekend Wrap-up

We had a fun, long weekend, with Cooper having yesterday off school. It's amazing what one morning of not having to wake before sunlight to drag littles out of bed, make breakfasts and pack lunches can do for a momma! I'm finally feeling more like myself today, after 10 days of a miserable cough and cold. I don't know how people with the flu do it, because this crap is awful!

Cooper had been asking for "date time" with each of us individually. I love when he wants that and we've been making more of an effort to do it. Him and the hubs went out kayaking around the lake on Saturday and sent me this pic. I watched trashy TV for the duration of nap time and caught up on some serious, much needed relaxing time.

On Sunday, we went to church on a gorgeous 60 degree day. It was so spring-like, that I had to bust out all the pastels.

Sunday afternoon was my turn to go on a date with Coop. He had been telling me that he wanted to take me to see Annie since it came out. I wanted to take him to see something he actually wanted to see, but it wasn't working. It was "my special day" according to him. Sweet boy. We saw the movie, then stopped for cookies and cannolis afterwards. He held my hand without me asking and was over the moon polite and obedient. Seriously, a dream come true.
Mother and Son Date Day
Monday, we got to go to the Charlotte Hornets game with Cooper's Junior Hornets team. It was fun, although the seats were so high up in the stadium, I was terrified of letting the boys alone!

Charlotte Hornets
It was another gorgeous day and really felt more like fall than winter. I love living here in Charlotte!

Hope you all had a fantastic weekend! I'm off to tackle 5 loads of laundry that made it's way to cleanliness, then into a pile on my couch. Worst chore eveeeeeer

Fashion // Date Night Stripes

I got to go out with the hubs and some friends of ours for a double date dinner last weekend. I had this outfit picked out for a different event about a month ago, but didn't get to wear it, so I was pretty excited for the chance to pull it out again!

This dress is similar to the one Kylie Jenner was spotted wearing this summer. I love how comfortable it is and that it's only $28, instead of $190 like hers! These OTK boots are fab for keeping your legs warm when you want to wear a short dress in the winter!

I'm slowing trying to beat a cold I came down with several days ago. Between Cooper's swollen tonsils, Callan up screaming most of a night from an ear infection and both the hubs and my cough/cold nonsense, I'm ready for health!

Fashion // New York Style

We had such a fun time in New York last week. I tend to make the hubs take pics for me in his little village square. I can't imagine he likes it, since I think his family knows everyone there, but he did't complain!

I love this top! It's loose fitting and oh, so comfortable. I may be turned away in every picture because I dropped a pile of avocado on myself right before I got out of the car. Serves me right for never sitting down and taking time to eat!

I haven't gotten my act together to show you our Christmas or New Years! I was trying to finish up some last minute things yesterday, when I realized my iPhoto is completely gone. Empty. 25,000 photos from the past 3 years have somehow vanished. After drying lots of tears, I'm trying to figure out if they can be recovered or not. So grateful I have this blog full of all my favorite photos!

Favorite Winter Workouts

Workouts in the winter. The struggle is real, y'all. I talked recently about my tips for staying active in the winter, which is so important for me. I don't want to get to bikini season with regrets! Today, though, I wanted to talk more about my favorite types of workouts. Some workouts motivate me more. Some are just more enjoyable. I love working out in the comfort of my home, especially in the winter when I don't want to go out in the cold!
