Stilettos and Diapers: February 2015

Snow Your Roll

Here I am, writing this on snow day #8 in the past 2 weeks. I mean, we did get some decent snow, but the temps are now in the 40s and today they called school off for "frozen fog". What does that even mean?!

Having lived in New York for 4 years and the fact that the hubs was born and raised there, makes me know the northerners are laughing hysterically at us. It is different here, simply because we aren't equipped at all. There was still thick ice on our roads 2 days after the ice storm last week, because the roads aren't treated and the "plows" we have were getting stuck. Yeah, not that helpful. I bet it was pretty comical to see me try to pull the hubs car up our driveway. All I wanted was to go to lunch with a friend! After 3 failed attempts, the hubs took over, driving all over the grass and making it to the street.

So what has the past 2 weeks looked like around here?

8 snow days
7 days with bored kids
6 episodes of Kirby Buckets watched
5 northern friends texting to see if we're alive
4 dance parties
3 cups of hot cocoa, per person
2 days with actually falling snow
1 snowman built

Last week, we had a day of sledding in ice. It was thick, but a blast to fly down the street on. Then yesterday, we had a good dumping of snow, which was beautiful!  Here's our backyard.

Callan didn't understand that I did not want to get pelted with a snowball every time I tried to take his picture. It may have made for wet pants for me, but a cute picture was worth it.

Did you get any snow where you live? And were your kids out of school for an unreasonable amount of time?!

Happy Friday everyone!

Oscar Style: Looks for Every Day

I may have fallen asleep for all but 15 minutes of the actual Oscars last night, but I made it a point to watch the red carpet before! I love seeing all the gorgeous (and not so gorgeous!) dresses! While the majority of us don't get the chance to wear these types of gowns regularly, or ever, I picked some down to earth pieces, inspired by my favorite looks from last night!
Naomi Watts Armani Prive Oscars
I always think Naomi Watts looks beautiful and last night was no exception. I love the detail of her Armani Prive gown, without it being over the top wild. This dress is still a bit pricier, but perfect for an event. I love that it has the halter and cutouts, while still being modest. But how fun is this one for a party?! Then there's this super casual one that has a lot of the same elements, but would be perfect for the beach!

Emma Stone Elie Saab Oscars

I love Emma Stone's Elie Saab dress, but I think my favorite part of it is the color. It's so gorgeous! I found this maxi dress (for $41!) that is the same pretty color. If you're feeling really bold, I think this dress is amazing, but I'm about 100% sure I would have nowhere to wear it!

Gweneth Paltrow Ralph & Russo Oscars

Gweneth Paltrow looked so pretty and girly in Ralph & Russo Couture. I think this dress got mixed reviews, but I'm a big fan! You can totally get this look for a summer wedding with this dress, or even more simple (for $14!) with this one

Jennifer Anniston Versace Oscars

Jennifer Anniston was stunning in Versace. I mean, how is this woman nearing 50? Nude dresses are always so elegant to me. Add in the beading and oh, my. Gorgeous! This dress and this dress both would be perfect for a formal summer wedding, while this one would be stunning for a more casual event.

Sienna Miller Oscar de la Renta Oscars

Sienna Miller took this Oscar de la Renta right off the NYFW runway. This is part of his fall 2015 line and is simply gorgeous. There is so much going on, from the jacquard bodice, to the bows and lace, but it all works together perfectly. I love the different textures joined in this dress and it would be very versatile. This one, picking up more of the navy from Sienna's dress, is modest while still being a statement.

Jennifer Lopez Elie Saab Oscars

While I love this side view of Jennifer Lopez's Elie Saab gown, the deep V front didn't do much for me. She is very princess-like, which I love! There are dresses inspired by hers that are totally wearable for a setting more casual than the Oscars, like this one and this one. But what about a swimsuit cover up? I love this one, with its beige color and pop of beading.

I think we all know who the real best dressed of the night is, though. That would be Adam Levine in a tuxedo. The end.

Here are a lot of the dresses linked above, as well as some fab event looks under $200!

Fashion // Caped

I finally jumped on the cape jacket trend and am loving the comfortable, warm layer!

I can't tell you the last time I wore a turtleneck, but my mercy I am now! It's freezing here! We had a wind chill of -1 this morning. I'm sure for some of you, that's nothing. For this Georgia girl? Unacceptable!

We're on day 3 of no school here. While we could probably go out today with no issues, so many areas of our school district still are still iced in. I'm pretty darn stir crazy and will be leaving the house tomorrow! If I can bear the cold, that is!

I was having major haircut remorse after I had a few inches cut off over Christmas. Now, I have the urge to chop of off, a la Kim K. Afraid it may be my pregnancy hormones talking, but I think I'd like the lob. Or maybe I just like how much time I would save drying my hair. Hehe. What do you think, go for it? Or keep it long?

Baby #3: The Reactions

Thanks again for all your excitement over the newest addition to our family! We are just so excited!

We knew we wanted a third for a while now, but we were trying to figure out the perfect timing. (Which, by the way, there isn't!) We had decided early summer to wait to try until after our cruise at the beginning of August. I thought we'd have a cruise baby, then I thought we'd have a Disney baby, then maybe a Thanksgiving baby, but none of those were meant to be.

2 days after Christmas, I decided to test because we were leaving for New York the next day. I knew it would be a long shot, since I was only day 22, but I wanted to know before we left, if I could. (I also wanted to know if I should stop drinking spiked eggnog...) To my surprise, it was positive! I had bought a little Christmas bib the month before, because I thought for sure I was pregnant then. I wrapped it up and snuck back into bed with the hubs, telling him that I forgot to give him one of his gifts. He opened it and knew immediately!

Since we were going to tell our families over the holidays, we wanted to tell the boys first. I knew it was risky telling them so early, since they may tell, but they never said anything. I'm so proud of them!

Cooper has been praying for a baby for a while now. He is so very sweet. When we told him, he jumped up and down, screaming and so excited. When we told Callan that there is a baby in my belly, his response was, "did you eat her?". Haha. They're both so excited! Callan wants to know when the baby is coming out all the time. Every Thursday, Cooper asks to watch the weekly video on the What To Expect app to see how big the baby is and what's developing. He's sure it's a girl, because he's "only been praying for a girl, not a boy". I hope it's a girl for his sake, although, we'll all be happy with whatever God blesses our family with.

I've been pretty sick, but not quite as bad as with Callan. The past week has been much better, too. I throw up almost every time I try to drink plain water, so the only thing I drink is weak, decaf tea and Sonic ice. The pregnancies with the boys were complete opposite. So far, I would put this one somewhere in the middle, symptom wise, so that leaves me no clue on the gender.

I will be 11 weeks on Thursday and the due date, as of right now, is September 10th. The baby was already measuring big at the 8 week ultrasound, so we'll see if I'm going to have yet another huge one! Cooper was 9lbs 2 oz, born at 41.5 weeks and Callan was 8lbs 10 oz, born at 38.5 weeks. This one will be a repeat c-section, probably on September 3, unless I go into labor before then.

I'm mostly anxious now to get a little bigger. I'm in that mushy, nothing fits, but I'm not big enough for maternity pants, phase. I'm also ready to not feel sick at all and to, of course, find out the gender! That will be early April and I just can't wait to get the nursery ready! We're planning to change our playroom over to a nursery, so I'll need all your toy storage ideas for moving them into the boys rooms!

Thanks, again, for all the sweet congratulations, y'all. I'm so excited to share another pregnancy journey with you!

Insta Valentines Weekend

First off, I wanted to say THANK YOU for all your sweet congratulations! I will be back with more baby info this week. We are so stinkin excited!

We had a really fun Valentine's Day weekend, but I didn't take my camera out one time. Here is our weekend of love, iPhone edition.

The weekend started off with "nap time me time". A glitter moon mani and conversation hearts. It was my first attempt at this fun, new nail trend and I think I like it.

I volunteered to make the snack for Cooper's class Valentines party. I made 3 batches of bunny bait, and did a cookie decorating craft.

I've been at these parties before and seen just how disgusting it can be for 1st graders to share a tub of frosting. As soon as you look away, there are 19 plastic knives dipping then licking, over and over. It's gross, I tell ya. And with everyone and their brother being sick, I went with a safe route.  Each child got their own bag that had a tub of frosting, plain sugar cookies, a container of sprinkles and decorations and a spreading spoon. No sharing around these parts!

I have a history of going a wee bit crazy on holidays, so Valentine's morning was no exception. I always have so much fun putting it all together, that it's hard for me to tame myself!

Christmas pajamas worked perfectly for love day...

And I had two really happy boys! (Who got a hair cut later that day, thank goodness!)

I made a breakfast feast of pancakes, heart shaped cinnamon buns and so much more that I literally couldn't move from the table for a little bit after I finished eating. I'm having insane heartburn already!

Later that afternoon, Cooper played his last basketball game before playoffs this coming weekend and won! It is so fun to see him play, but it's totally awesome when they win.

We thought about going out for dinner, but decided against it. We ended up buying some delicious steaks, cooking together and finishing the night with this fruit tart from The Fresh Market. I love that place! The hubs had some nice wine and I had some nice iced tea. Which is all I can drink right now.

Cooper was so excited to get Uno for Valentine's day and we played no less than 13,000 times that night. It's so fun to be able to play a game that's fun for everyone and you don't actually have to let the kids win!

Yesterday, I was so exhausted. When that happens, I like to tell The Hubs the baby is growing something super important, like a kidney. I watched a House Hunter's marathon and napped on the couch for like 4 hours. It was marvelous, y'all. We finished the night with some Chinese takeout and The Bachelor. Those girls are off their rocker!

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend!

Fashion // The Black and White

There's not much that makes me feel more chic and elegant than a classic black and white getup. I wore this to church this past Sunday and was surprised at how toddler-chasing-friendly these shoes actually are.

I just got this white Peplum Ruffled Top from Lookbook Store and it's gone right into regular rotation. I love the classic white, but the fun ruffles add a lot to it. I am ready to pair it with bright, spring-y bottoms soon!

Art of Entertaining: Wine Pairings and Cheese Boards

There's not much I'm more enthusiastic about than entertaining. I love having people over, cooking delicious food and making a swoon worthy spread. Over the weekend, we had a wine tasting party, complete with pairings and blind tastings.

For the Love

Looking for a Valentine's gift for ummm...yourself? Admit it. We all like to get exactly what we want and sometimes that just means getting it for yourself. Or sending your husband the link to this post. Either way, I love all of these things! Valentine's Day is one of my absolute favorite holidays!

I'm planning a fun wine tasting and paring party for this weekend and I can't wait to share it with you next week! Happy Friday!
