Weekend, Family and Love!

Friday made it, y'all! I'm so happy that we got through the first week of school around here, that I don't have to drag a 6 year old out of bed tomorrow and that my entire family will be here tonight! The hub's has off today and Monday for Labor Day, so it's going to be an awesome weekend around here! In a couple hours, we'll be lounging on the lake and have no other plans but to do that all day long. Well, that is after I make beds for 16 people!

I wanted to tell you, too, that Wyndham created this cool interactive map of our love story for the Travel the Distance Contest with their site, Women on Their Way. The site is Wyndham's online resource for all things travel, business and leisure. Go check out our story and vote for us if you can! You'll see a lot of pictures of us looking oh so young and in love, like this one.

What are your big Labor Day weekend plans? Since I can't seem to get past the the fact that white after Labor Day is acceptable, I'll be wearing a lot of white clothing!

Delicious, Healthy and Right To Your Door

With the start of school, snacking around here is at an all time high. There are snacks for the lunch box, snacks for the pickup line and snacks when we're rushing from school to football practice, errands and more. When I'm home all day, I usually don't snack much. Now that I am heading out to school pickup, I find myself rushing out last minute and grabbing easy snacks. I try to go for healthy ones, but lets face it. That isn't always easy.

First of First

I can't believe my baby is in the first grade! On Monday, a couple people, including my mom, said "I didn't know Cooper was starting school today!". I think I wasn't even talking about it because I was in sheer denial. I hate going from all day with my baby to hardly any time. I got up early, got ready and packed his lunch. When he was ready, he informed me that he wanted to walk into school by himself and that I could stay home, letting Dad drop him at the door. I suddenly felt like I had a teenager. But, I didn't cry (in front of him) and smothered his little face in kisses on his way out.

Of course after he left, I spent some time looking through the pictures on my computer. You know, because a good cry never hurt anyone. This literally feels like yesterday to me. We had been in our Virginia house for just a few months and it was just the two of us all day, every day.

I miss that. I really do. But I'm grateful for the one on one time I'm getting to spend with Callan and for the amazing ways Cooper is going to grow in school this year. He already suggested he go right into 2nd grade, since he's "great at multiplication". I can't wait to see how much more he learns this year. He got a wonderful teacher, I get to paint my nails in the pickup line and most of all, he's so excited to be back to school.

Michigan, Fast Cars and Grown-Up Time.

Last weekend, one of the hubs coworkers got married in Michigan. The hubs and his team were already there working, so another one of the wives and I flew out together. Leaving at 4am was torture, but sunrise from a plane is pretty much awesome.
We landed in Chicago and drove the 1.5 hours up to Michigan.
What didn't suck one bit, was the car we drove. (And my comfy scarf from Evelyn's Shoppe!)
It's not every day that I don't have to worry about car seats, diaper bags and room for half of my house to fit in the car, so while I didn't, I opted for something small, fast and standard.

I drove the 2014 Mazda MX-5 Miata convertible. It was a 6 speed manual, with 167 horsepower. Most of you reading may not care about that, but I sure do. Since the past several of my 14 cars have been SUV's, I was ready for some speed. I sure got it, too!
 photo IMG_8235_zps00f06609.jpg
It was a hard top convertible, so not super noisy inside when I was pushing 90 75 on Chicago's freeways. I may have had to open the door at the toll booth because I couldn't find the window buttons, though. (They're in the center console, fyi!)

Where did all the luggage go? Surprisingly, I packed in a rolling carry on, that sat down in a lowered section of the trunk, leaving enough room for the hubs larger bag on top of mine. I completely expected to carry a suitcase in my lap at some point, but never had to!

The hubs 6'3" self had hair grazing the roof, but that wasn't anything putting the top down and hitting the beach didn't fix! Who knew Lake Michigan was so beach like?
Some of our great friends that we met through the hubs work and lived near in California, now live in the town we were in and I loved time sitting on the beach and catching up.
Saturday morning, I tried to sleep in, since we were kidless and all, but I couldn't! I opted for a morning run since it was only 60 out, followed by a riverside brunch with the hubs. It's weird and delightful and essential to sometimes eat with your spouse sans children. Seriously. The conversation! The eating! The quiet!
The wedding was outside on a golf course and absolutely gorgeous!
I had every single intention of wearing a colorful dress to this wedding. I tried on everything I could find and fell in love with this dress, which they did not have in pink in the store! I just added in some colorful heels and clutch and called it a day!
You know when you get a picture and your eyes are just starting to blink but it's the only picture you got? Um, yeah.
So grateful for the fun weekend together and the in-laws keeping our boys. We've been together nearly 12 years and it's so great to occasionally have that time just the 2 of us!

I was provided the MX-5 Miata for the weekend in exchange for my review. All thoughts are my own.

#CruisingCarnival: Arbua and Dominican Republic

Part 1 of our Carnival Breeze cruise here!

Aruba, Jamaica, ooh, I want to take ya. On a virtual tour, that is! Aruba was probably my second favorite port. Or my first. I don't know. It was great. We arrived before we woke up, which was one of my favorite parts of cruising.

Keeping with the hubs requirements to see the counties and mine to tan my buns on the beach, we did another Sea and See tour. This started with a brightly colored, open air "party bus". (And some hot babies. It cooled off once we started moving!)

We saw the countryside, full of cactus and large, natural rock formations. This one supposedly looks like a whale, which I can tell a little better in the picture than in real life.

Next stop, was the Natural Bridge. This was listed on every must see list I looked at for Aruba, even though it collapsed in 2005. Sea erosion formed the bridge out of coral rock, creating a 100 ft, 25 ft over the sea.

Its still a gorgeous spot and you can see exactly where the bridge fell.

There is another one forming that they call the "baby bridge", which was fun to see as well.

The locals told us to make wishes and stack rocks. Cooper hasn't told us what he wished for!

The tour led us along the shore and up to the lighthouse, where we drank from coconuts.

And then it was beach time. It was gorgeous! Crystal clear water and super white sand. A perfect beach in my book!

Not sure if this was an excursion, since we were pretty close to the boat when I saw this, but this pirate ship full of people had music thumping and looked like they were having a blast!

Next port was La Romana, Dominican Republic. From our ship, you could tell it wasn't as "tropical" as the rest of the ports. I had read a lot of mixed reviews, but we wanted to check it out anyway.

Casa De Campo is very close to the port, which is where Andi gave out the final rose on the last season of the Bachelorette. (If you don't watch that, we can't be friends on Monday nights.) It's a private compound with beaches, restaurants and hotels and you can pay to go in for the day. I heard its the safest spot to hang out there.

But, back to our country touring, we went on a little train right outside of the port. We passed a baseball field, which was cool since there are so many professional baseball players now from the DR.

There was some beautiful architecture, but there was also a lot of poverty, people trying hard to sell you things and it was just sad to me.

I suppose no matter where you live, or how much money is there, everyone needs pizza delivery!

So that day was a little short, we hopped back on the Carnival Breeze for some fun on board! (Which is coming up next!)

Embellished Black {Fashion}

When you have 3 sisters that all wear about your size, there's no reason I have to buy clothes for every fancy event. There's also a lot of missing clothing in all of our closets at any given time. I stole this dress from little sis #1 about 4 months ago and I've worn it twice. She recently realized I have it, much like a favorite pink maxi that she has of mine!

School Orientation {Fashion}

Last night was Cooper's school orientation/meet the teacher night. I can't believer 1st grade is already here. I thought it would be much easier than last year, and it was, but I still fought tears several times in the hallway. I just don't want my baby to be gone all day!

I don't know how you are, but going into school stresses me out like whoa. I get all concerned about meeting new parents and teachers and the impression I'm giving. It could be orientation, parent teacher conference or just a volunteering day, but I'm always thinking about what I'm wearing. Last night was no exception. Since I just got asked by a guy at my front door last week if my mom was home, it was even more in the forefront of my mind to dress a little more "grown up". I wanted to be comfortable, but look just fashionable enough, without going overboard with a romper or super trendy look.

What does that equal? Old faithful with a little twist.

Jeans for comfort, a flowy top that allows you to move, a cross body so your hands are free to hold all the stuff (and wipe some tears) and a pair of fab shoes. Adding in a fun pair of shoes and a trendy bag made a relatively normal outfit just exciting enough. I love these neutral wedges from Rack Room Shoes. They are nowhere near boring, but could go with just about anything! If you're outside of the south where the temperatures are already dropping, you could pair this look with a cute pair of booties or a low heel. I'm loving these options.
