Stilettos and Diapers: April 2014

Super Mario Birthday Party

Cooper's 6th Super Mario Birthday Party was one of my favorite ones I've ever done. It honestly didn't take that much work and was so, so cute! Stilettos and Diapers: Super Mario Birthday Party
I covered the wall in strips of streamers, then twisted and taped them at the bottom. The grass is cut out of poster board and taped to the back of the table. The game pieces (which I think added lots of character!) on the wall are made out of the treat boxes cut apart and brick scrapbook paper. I made the piranhas and will post a tutorial soon. Pretty easy and a fun project! Add some chocolate gold coins hanging from the ceiling and Mario printed on cardstock and the scene is set!

Y'all. Look at these cookies from Sugared Up. Are they not the cutest things you've ever seen?! I was SO excited when I picked these Mario toppers up. You can put them on cookies or cupcakes. The detail is amazing and they ship these toppers all over the US, individually wrapped and safe in bubble wrap. You have got to see the rest of their work, too. (Theres even Frozen ones now!)

These little boxes made cute decorations and the kids then used them to put their candy from the piniata in.

Now, lets talk party logistics. I think the rule applies to most schools, but here if you invite one kid from class, you have to invite them all. This means invites went out to 19 kids. Which also means I was terrified for my house's well being. So I contacted Astro Jump North Charlotte and got set for a big bounce house in the backyard. Well, the weather had other plans and we got rain on and off all day long. When I spoke with the owner the day of the party, he probably sensed the sheer terror in my voice. It wasn't safe to do an outdoor bounce house, so he got us a smaller bounce house that fit in our garage. It ended up being so perfect.

If you are anywhere in the Charlotte area, contact Astro Jump for your next party or event. They were fantastic to work with and have obstacle course bounces, water slides and lots more fun for your party. This was our second year with a bounce house and I don't think I'll have another birthday party without one anytime soon!

As you'll see below, I hit a little Mario jackpot at Walmart. They were the only bakery that had a Mario cake around here and I found some other stuff while I was looking there.
Here is where all the goods came from:

Cookie Toppers: Sugared Up
Cake and Cupcakes: Walmart (You can buy the rings on the cupcakes from Amazon below if you want to make your own)
Bounce House: Astro Jump North Charlotte
Lollipops: Walgreens (they were $0.99)
Piniata: Walmart (not technically Mario, just a baby dinosaur that passed as Yoshi)
T-Shirts: Walmart
Scrapbook Paper: Michaels (brick decorations on wall)
Everything Else: Available from Amazon

My Mother's Day Wish List (and some great ideas for your mom!)

Mother's Day is one of those Hallmark holidays that just guilt people into spending money. Now that I'm a mom, though, I appreciate the extra doting that comes that day of the year. No one else in my house gets this day and it just makes me feel special. I don't really need anything, but there are some practical things I would love to have and some plain old non essential things I would just like because they're super cute. Here are some things I wouldn't mind opening on Mother's Day this year and I'm sure your mom would like them, too.  If jewelry is your mom's thing, check out Molly Suzanne, my online boutique, for some things that any fashion loving mom would love!

Easter Snaps

Easter weekend was a fast one. With my family arriving late Friday then Cooper's Birthday party on Saturday, we jumped from one event right to the next.

Saturday night, we colored eggs. The shock face seemed to be the pick of the night.

Sunday morning, it was busy trying to get the whole house of folks up, showered and ready for church in addition to finding all the eggs!

Lucky for me, I got to get some pictures before everyone changed their clothes! It was so nice to have my parents, brother and littlest sister with us!

I made a big lunch (eaten on the finest of paper plates) and couldn't resist buying the lamb shaped butter.
Later that day, we spent some time hiking through our backyard. Don't you love the cozy shorts and rain boot look?
This week is Cooper's spring break, so I'm trying to stay off to computer and spend lots of time with him! I love having him around all the time. And sleeping in.

My Healthy Home with Ology

Since moving into our house back in December, we've been cleaning things out, trying to get rid of stuff we don't need. We both tend to be "savers" and I don't mean that in a good financial sense kind of way. We've gotten to the point, after several moves, that we just don't want to move this stuff around anymore. We just want an organized, healthy home. We've been slowly but surely, weeding through unnecessary things and and giving things to people that may need them.

Finding Your Perfect Fit

Am I the only one really shocked by this stat? I didn't think I was one of the 80%, until I used the Kohl's online measuring tool and found out otherwise! I think it's hard to stay on top of bra sizes when you're in the middle of childbearing years and your sizes are up, down and any other direction they can go in.

I had noticed some "back fat" lately in some pictures I had taken for my outfit post, which doesn't look nice AT ALL. With my new size in mind, I spent some time in Kohl's bra section and am feeling like all sorts of a new woman.

I am so happy to have some new bras that actually fit. I've been wearing some uncomfortable bras and that right there should be sign enough that my size was off!

How do you know if you're wearing the right size bra? If you have any of the following signs, it's time to shop:

- The cups wrinkle
- You spill over the top or sides of the cups
- The center of the bra doesn't rest flat against your breastbone
- The band rides up in the back

Sound familiar to anyone? Head over to Kohl's and find your #PerfectFit bra from their wide selection of bras!

With tons of brands, cuts and colors to choose from, Kohl's has you covered at prices that won't make you want to return to the braless 70s. If you get in before April 19th, you'll earn $10 Kohl's cash for every $50 you spend. Currently, you can also get many brands of bras buy one, get one half off!

Happy shopping for your perfect fit at Kohl's!

This post was sponsored by Kohl's. I was provided pieces to review in exchange for my honest opinion.

Flip It and Reverse It.

The hubs was gone the whole week last week and I basically melted into a little puddle of exhaustion when he got home. The good thing about being apart, is you really savor the time when you get back together. Our weekend was a really great one. It started off with dinner with friends on Friday night and T-ball Saturday. Callan wants to "play baseball!" so badly, so he was thrilled that the dugout was open and he could hang out with his brother during the game.
Sunday, we went to church and looked like the brightest family on the block. Cal was dressed like a retired Floridian in his adorable FabKids getup and fell asleep in the car. This picture made me realize my baby isn't quite "baby" anymore.
Sunday on the way home from church, we stopped at Dicks to look at canoes. We've been talking about it since we moved here, but kept putting it off for some reason. Well, we ended up buying a canoe we can all fit in and a single kayak for times we just want to go out alone for some peace and quiet. We took them both out with my sis and we wondered why we waited so long to buy them!
The boys loved it and much to my amazement, sat still enough for us not to flip either boat.

My arms feel like they're going to fall off today, after carrying the boats down to the water and all the paddling. I should have some sweet shoulders by summer! We followed up the lake time with grilling burgers and hanging on the deck. I seriously love living here! (Remind me of this when it's 100 degrees out!)

So of course after a fun weekend, my kitchen looked like this.
When I saw this huge island during our house hunting, I thought about how much easier it would be to keep the kitchen clean with so much space. Umm, not so much. It just collects even more crap. Luckily, staying up until 11:15 got it all cleaned up last night and ready for the week. I'm prepping for my family to come in Friday, Cooper's 6th Birthday party on Saturday and Easter on Sunday!

Monthly Mojo: April

Linking up with Rachel and Heather again for my favorite things of the month! April itself is one of my favorite months. The weather suddenly turning warm, Easter and Cooper's Birthday! This coming week, I'm finishing all the last minute prep for his party as well as Easter and all my family coming into town! Really looking forward to it all and hope it doesn't fly by!

Here are some things I'm really loving this month:
1. P90X3. I love that this workout is only 30 minutes long. I feel like it's totally doable and I'm able to stay consistent. I've only lost like 3 lbs in the past 2 months, but I've lost several inches and can see a big change in my body!

2. Girl Scout Creamer. This stuff. SO good. So bad for you, but it's my thing. I'm not giving it up.

3. Baseball Season! I love baseball. We're big Met fans around here, so the season isn't full of that much excitement. Cooper's T-ball games? Whole other story! So much fun seeing him play!

4. Cowboy Boots. I'm loving my X-Appeal boots from Rack Room Shoes. They're on sale right now for $29.99 too! (You can see how I styled them this week here)

5. Starbucks Verismo. This single cup coffee brewer from Staples is not only pretty (I have the champagne one!) but it makes a perfect fancy cup of coffee. The ex barista in me is coming alive with this thing. See how I've been making Starbucks Caramel Macchiatos right at home here!

That's all folks! I'm off to a T-ball game! Weekends just aren't free time once you have kids in sports!
