Stilettos and Diapers: That time I tried to be a SuperWoman

That time I tried to be a SuperWoman

Not sure if I mentioned it yet, but I got chosen in the random draw to run in the Nike Women's Half Marathon in DC this year! It will be my second half marathon and once again, I'll be running with my bloggy bestie, Rachel

Training with kids is tough. It's just a lot of time commitment. I've been doing fine, getting in my 3 milers around the neighborhood when the hubs gets home from work and sneaking in the long runs on the weekends.

Well, they've all become long runs lately. Yesterday I was slated to run 6 miles. And while I should probably just get a treadmill and solve all these problems, I could buy a lot of clothes for the price of one. So I won't.

On Sunday night, it totally hit me. Why don't I just get up early, get to the gym and get home before the boys wake up? OMG. Why haven't I thought of that before!? It's perfect! So off I went at 6am yesterday for my 6 miler. I was home by 7:30 and all the boys were just waking up. I was patting myself on the back for being such a genius as I made breakfast then scurried off for a shower while everyone ate.

Then around 10am it hit me.

I found myself sitting in pure zombie mode in the basement while the boys played around me. I think I may have fallen asleep for a hot minute before my head slammed against the back of the couch. I was exhausted. At 10am.

I shuffled around the rest of the day, with my wet hair still piled on top of my head and fell asleep at 9 on the couch. I didn't even see who got kicked off the bachelor!

How you moms do it, I'll never know. I do not have the energy to wake up early and run, then function properly all day. Maybe I'd be good if we had siestas around here?

This morning, you better believe my bootay was parked in bed until the kids woke up. After that, it was snuggle time on the couch while watching Mickey. Aka, a little more sleep for Mommy. Just how I like it.

  1. I am the same exact way! I have tried to get up early and go to the gym before everyone wakes up but I am exhausted by mid morning! And now, my husband wakes up at 5am to get to work everyday so that is no longer an option for me and I am just fine with it! =)

  2. hehe... I don't know how some people work overnights and then stay up with non-napping toddlers all day long LOL. I do get the early morning thing though. We are up at 4:45AM and out the door by 5:45AM only to get home at 5PM. The babe goes to sleep early and then hubs and I stay up til 10 or 11PM and start all over the next day. I guess every person's sleep requirements are different. I will say this, its all about what you are used too and routine. It takes a while to break your body into something different for sure!

  3. I am training for an April half and I struggle with fitting in a lot of outdoor runs. I bought a treadmill a few years ago and I will read on my Kindle while I run... it did take awhile for me to get used to reading while running, but I can do it now... The only time I ever fit in an outdoor run is on the weekend and its usually my longer run for the week.

  4. ha I've thought about that too, but considering T is up for the day at 6:15 and Jasper usually 6:30 I'd have to be up by like 5..and that is Not happening. I did just buy a double jogging stroller..I made it like 3 blocks before I sprained my ass cheek. So. Yeah.

  5. lmao, so glad im not the only one with this problem. Ive finally got back on a good eating healthy regimen and the only thing holding me back is I dont exercise, but my main problem is I dont have time for it. Ive debated on doing the whole waking up early thing, but that sh*t is for the birds lol

  6. I hear ya! I've been doing the whole get up before A wakes and the hubs heads off to work. Sometimes I can sneak in late afternoon runs (which are much better for me), but those early morning runs? I'm all go until about 2 p.m. (right now!) then I hit a wall and run out of steam. It's tough, but I guess it's all what you get used to and LOTS OF COFFEE helps too. I don't do it everyday which helps, and like I said I switch it up. Congrats on the Nike Half! I'm running their 10k they've opened for syncing through the Nike+ devices and I can't wait! Hang in there momma.

  7. Congrats on being chosen for NWM! That will be such a fun race! I know so many people running it. Good luck fitting all the training in. I know that's got to be difficult.

  8. Cute post! When I exercise (which I am not doing at the moment=lazy) I rather do it in the morning but NOT when I first get up. NEED COFFEE!!!

  9. Sometimes I have to get up at 5am to get in a run before work, and I am exhausted all day! I don't know how you do it with little ones:) I bet the race is going to be amazing, too!

  10. I hear ya! Morning workouts- no thanks! I also have 2 kids so I try to get to a yoga class in the late afternoon before dinner, when the husapband gets home or I workout at night after the kids go to bed from 8-9 PM. it takes up most of my evening but definitely beats early mornings!

  11. I have no idea how those moms do it either! I am not a morning person. Today was the first time I tried to get three kids to the gym to go to the childcare while I worked out. It took me three and a half hours just to get there with all of our shenanigans and then the childcare wasn't even open! Obviously working out at the crack of dawn will never happen for me! :)
