Lately.

This week has been rough, to say the least.

I try to be honest around these parts, not only sharing the pin-worthy moments, but the life-sucked-out-of-ya-moments, too.

The week started in the wee hours Sunday morning, when what appeared to be a little boil on Callan got red and hot and he spiked a fever. This momma freaked a certifiable amount and went to the ER. Turns out I freaked for good reason, when they were quick to give him 2 antibiotic shots. Seeing that bitty hospital band on his wrist put me over the emotional edge.
The week would be scattered with all the things that happen to a mom with a sick baby. Sleepless nights, cleaning medicine syringes and 2 man holds to give baby said medicine.

There was 3 more doctors appointments, 4 more shots and plenty of baby motrin.

There was the time I ran into the grocery store with both kids for 1 prescription and left holding a baby, while my 4 year old screamed that I bought the wrong bribery mac-n-cheese. Later, I got an apology because that mac-n-cheese was "so delicious".

The 4 year old continued to act the fool. To the point that loosing privileges were happening much quicker. He even left his Dad a voicemail telling him of my apparent bad parenting.

"Hi Dad. It's Cooper. Just wanted to tell you that snap, just like that, I lost the computer for the whole morning for being nasty to my Mom."

We drug both kids out to choose paint and carpet for the basement, since we're hustling to
get it finished before Christmas in case Santa brings stuff that goes down there. Which I have the feeling he is! I just hope I liked what we picked since the trips did nothing but drive us both to drink.

After 1 appointment this week, Callan had fallen asleep in the car. In the 3.7 seconds it took us to talk about how we could get him in without waking him, Cooper jumped the backseat and found all Santa's wrapping paper. I've been on a hunt since then for character paper, and it seems to have been bought out by all the good parents.

Thursdays miserable baby day led the hubs to take Cooper to Lowes so I could have a little break. When they got home, the hubs was unloading paint from the back of my suv, when Cooper decided to close the garage down on the lift gate. We decided we should skip the post bedtime wine and go straight to shots.

You can only imagine what my house looks like after this week. When your child asks you to sweep up because the floor is disgusting, you really feel like Mom-of-the-year.

I'm helping with a good childhood friend's bridal shower in southern VA tomorrow. I'm so looking forward to a 2 hour road trip by myself. Don't worry, I'll make the kids bento boxes and write the med list down for the hubs. Then I'm turning off my phone and am going to bask in amazingly magical silence.

(Edited to add)
Wow, perspective. Ill take my hardest week with my kids over the silence of not having them at all any day. My prayers are with the families who lost their little loves today. My heart breaks for you.

  1. Oh my goodness! So sorry for sweet baby Callan. I hope he feels better soon. I am honestly amazed at your patience because I would have already pulled my hair out. But, not going to lie...the Cooper phone call made me giggle. Hope you gain some sanity on your drive! You should make a relaxing playlist to zone out to. It's one of my favorite things to do on road trips! :)

  4. Wow! You have had a really eventful week and not in a good way. Sorry to hear that Callen is sick. I'm praying that he has a speedy recovery. And I wished you lived closer to my area because our stores are stocked with character wrapping paper-Dora, Diego, Spiderman, etc. Hoping you stumbled upon some on your road trip. Enjoy because you've earned that break ten fold!

  5. I hope Callan feels better soon. I did laugh at your post because I feel I'll lived some of it at times. Sometimes it's so crazy that people don't even believe you...but it's true you're living it. LOVE and getting many compliments on the jewelry I bought. I've sent some people to check out your site. Thanks for the thoughts of the tragedy in Newtown...my friend works there and said you can't even imagine. Prayers for Newtown.

  7. I'm so sorry for your hard week, but I feel ya. Every time I thought about snapping at one of my kids, I would mentally flash to the news & whatever I felt was gone. Angry words were changed into hugs or silliness.
    Life is just too short.

  8. I sure hope your sweet baby is feeling much better...we all have those days/weeks...this time of year I blame it on holiday overload and cabin fever! I have an idea for you for your SANTA paper...my boys are (age 9,8,2 and 1) I typically reservrd paper with just SANTA's on it for their gifts...but then last year the older two were fascinated by the Polar Express and how the gift was wrapped in "candy cane paper with a green bow" so lucky me I found red and white stripe paper at Dollar Tree and Green wire ribbon! this year I chose blue and white snowflake paper and wire ribbon...another cute idea would be brown craft paper covered with stickers...hope that helps in case you can't find exactly what you want...MERRY CHRISTMAS

  9. Long time lurker. Never a commenter... Just wanted to jump in and tell you. I know the frustration, and the crazy crazy crap that being a mom can bring.... And wow, perspective that happens during tragedy is no joke, and completely important...

I just wanted to tell you that I know the frustration can still be there, and IS there... I love my kids like nothing I can explain, but dang, they are harddddddddd! ;) I would take the hard any day over no babies at all, but I just wanted to tell you, I know it's hard. I'm with you. It's HARD. But it is GOOD. :)
