Stilettos and Diapers: September 2010

What went down in Vegas - Day 2

We've had company, so my blogging has been on hold. More on that trip to come, but first, lets finish Vegas.

Day 2 had us waking up here.
Trying on our new sunglasses,
And heading here to take a tan.
I have the longest toes in the world.
I hit the spa while the hubs drove race cars at 140 MPH, then we met up for a poolside lunch.
And what is lunch poolside without a cocktail?
That night, we got all ready and took another awkward self timer pic.
Then went to see Jersey Boys.

If you don't know, Jersey Boys is about Frakie Valli and the Four Seasons. While I enjoyed the music, I was THE YOUNGEST person in the entire theater. The lady in front of me was getting her freak on and screaming over some 50 year old men. Awkward. She was actually crying at the end. I couldn't help but laugh.

Especially since the only song I knew was covered by Fergie.

If you're ever in Vegas, take your parents to see it. In turn, they will cheer and do a pseudo fist pump for the majority of the numbers.

We had dinner at Cut in the Palazzo after and it was incredible. Like to die for Wolfgang Puck food. And my favorite? The onion rings. Worth every calorie.

Back on the bloggy side of things, I'm going to the Momz Share event at Scary Mommy's house this weekend! I'm freaking a bit because I don't know what I'm going to wear. The inlaws are coming Friday, so I have some major cleaning to do and not much time to shop. Oh well. Hope I don't make a total fool of myself. If you're going, let me know!

What went down in Vegas - Day 1

I think I'll just drag this trips post out cause sweet mercies, I miss it!

Thursday we got to our hotel, the Mandarin Oriental. Best hotel in Vegas, if you ask me. Its non-gaming, so its quiet, but its right next door to a great casino.
The view from our room on the 20th floor.

Getting ready to head to dinner.

Dinner was poolside with a live band and the clinical strength wasn't cutting it in the 100 degree weather. If ya know what I mean. Thank goodness the sun went down quick after we got there.

After some gambling lessons, we headed next door to City Center.

Where we made some money,
and some faces,
Then headed back waaaay past my bedtime.

Fast forward to this weekend...

We have some friends from California coming this weekend and I'm super excited! We have plans for wine tasting, DC sightseeing, and general troublemaking in the District.

Happy Friday Y'all!

Where it went wrong.

Lets just say Vegas was AMAZING.

I relaxed and partied more than I have in the past 2.5 years. I think it should be mandatory every year you're a parent, actually.

When we got to the airport, I tried to call my mom to check on Coop, and my phone wouldn't work. Black screen of death. I practically cried, then turned it off for the flight.

In Vegas, it turned on.

I called my mom. I tweeted about our driver holding our name on a sign and his black Escalade. Then about the full bar IN OUR ROOM.

Then it died. Again.
And I couldn't show you all the fun things I was ziplining across a canyon at 50 MPH. It was a blast.

Just today, I finally got over my I'm depressed cause I'm no longer sipping cocktails in Vegas mood and went to Verizon. Only to find they won't do anything.

So now I'm bummed again and can't decide what phone to get. I really don't want another crappy Storm, and I can't go back to my stone age phone and patiently wait for Verizon to get me a freakin iPhone.

I never thought it would be this hard to be phone less!

Aaaand we're off!

I'm freaking out. Last time we left the little man, we drove, and today we're flying. I'm going to miss my little man so much!

But alas, the time comes to put on my big girl pants and partaaaaay!

If you need me, I'll be in Vegas, baby!

Dress code gone confusing.

This week we're headed to Vegas, and you all know the thing at the top of my list is what I'm wearing.

Shopping for the outfits knowing I'll be with all the who's who of the hubs company is scary. Making it worse are the dress codes. This is what I have to work with.

Resort Attire

Celebrity chic

Seriously, what the frick is Celebrity Chic?

I wouldn't know if I was in dress code if I wanted to.

Anyone have a clue?

I guess it wouldn't change much. They only told us 1 week in advance so you know I already had all my clothes ready to go.

They've been tested with no nip slips, so I'm pretty sure they should just be happy with that. Well, as long as dress #3 doesn't rip at the seams when I sit down.

The multi-use baby wipe.

How the frick did I ever live without them?

My feet got filthy cause I wore flip-flops in the lot next door. Baby wipe.

Spilled coffee in the car. Baby wipe.

Sticky granola bar that Cooper no longer wanted on my finger. Baby wipe.

Spot of red sauce splattered on my shirt. Baby wipe.

I made a friend spill red wine on her dress at a wedding. Baby wipe.
NO! I didn't have a baby or a diaper bag, therefore red wine stayed everywhere.

A little funk on the carpet from some excited living room eater. Baby wipe.

Got sweaty bubbies after a workout and no time for a shower. Baby wipe.
Come 'on. I KNOW I'm not the only one who does that.

How do you non-moms get anything off of anything?

We don't know how to drive cars into the ground.

I love, love cars. I always have and owe that to my Dad. He has a car dealership and I never know what they are going to be driving when I go see them.
I've been known to walk with him behind a running bus just to smell burning diesel fuel.
That is one of my favorite smells in the whole world. For reals.

Then comes the hubs. Who loves cars.
I think that proves I add to some kind of statistic, right?
We've had 12 cars since we've been together.

We had NO cars when I gave birth to Cooper. Like ZERO. Like went from 3 to 0 in 2 days.
My mom was in a panic. Probably because her daughter was freakin 2 weeks over due and we didn't have a way to the hospital!
Don't worry, we got a rental thats proudly displayed in all our coming home pics.

Long story short, we went to NY last week for the hubs grandma's funeral. We had just listed hubs car for sale, because well, hes had it for a year...time for a change up.

When we got there, my SIL said her BF/EX/Friend/Secret Lover's parents wanted to see the car.

Well, they saw it. They liked it. They bought it.

And we came home in a rental.

Oh and guess what? We always list our cars at once, for some reason beyond me, and someone wants to come look at my car tonight. I feel a rental coming on.

The laboring-ist of all Labor days.

We labored this Labor day weekend. Probably more than I've labored in my life. I'm the type of gal that believes I can do anything with the help of google. And you know I'm cheap. So I convinced the hubs to go along with my plan. Wanna see?

Saturday, we went to Lowes and bought supplies. Lots of supplies.
Then I went back alone and got wood, nails and screws to build stairs. The looks I got as I pushed that huge cart full of lumbar were hilarious.

Saturday night, we hung out in the garage building stairs.

Sunday morning, we marked off our square and started cutting out the grass.

Then we dug up 3 inches of dirt. This was the most ball sucky thing I've ever done in my life.
Thumbs waaay down.
This is not a tan, simply filth on the hubs legs.
Next came rocks.
Then leveling the whole thing.
Finally time for the patio stones.
We finished them up on Monday morning, and swept the sand over them.
Stair time! I've never been so relieved to see stairs in all my life.
We used composite wood for the steps themselves.
I think we'll add some hand rails to the steps, but that will be another a long time.
It took 17 hours of straight up work, making me sore to the very core, and my hands hardly able to squeeze the toothpaste tube. Pretty sure I couldn't be paid to do it again. Oh, but I did loose 3 lbs, so maybe that was worth it. Hehe.

A goodbye and a sugar high.

Hubs sweet Grandma passed away on Sunday, so we came up to NY for the funeral and to be with his family.
Christmas 2009

We went yesterday afternoon to have some fun together, and what is better in upstate NY than apple picking? I'm soooo in the mood for fall now!

This is Cooper's cousin, Gianna, and he was so sweet and gentle with her.

Baby girl NOW please!!

Then we had to get apple cider donuts...quite possibly the best food EVER.
And if that wasn't enough sugar for the day, we went for ice cream after dinner.
Thanks to that, I'm 50 lbs heavier and totally ready to rock a bikini in Vegas in 2 weeks...
